A Navigation Overview

Bonfire Builder provides intuitive keyboard, mouse, and hotkey controls to help you navigate and interact with your 3D world in real time. These controls are designed for creators — not coders — so you can move quickly and stay in flow.

Controls in the Bonfire Player vary by platform (desktop, mobile, VR). This page covers Builder controls only.

Bonfire's Default UI Layout

While the Bonfire Builder and Bonfire Player sections explore each feature in depth, this page provides a high-level overview of the key interface components to help you get oriented quickly.

• Sparks Browser Panel (Bottom) – Browse and drag Sparks into your scene.

• Map Editor (Center) – Lets you use the Gizmo Control panel to select, move, rotate, or scale Sparks. It offers multiple views, including Fly Cam, Top-Down, Bottom, and North-to-South.

• Traits Panel (Right) – View and edit Spark properties.

• Toolbar (Top) – Save your Book, undo/redo, change tools, and manage layers.

• Help Panel (Left) - Provides creators with in-platform step-by-step instructions, tutorial videos, and quick access to key functions and workflows in Bonfire Builder.

Controls

Keyboard and Mouse

Several keyboard and mouse controls allow movement and interaction in 3D within the Bonfire Builder. Bonfire Player controls are device-specific.

• Select - Left click to select Sparks or click and drag across the entire shape of a Spark when in Map Editor.

• Pan - Right-click within the Map Editor to pan across the background.

• Rotate - Within the Map Explorer, a right click, hold, and drag enables rotating 360 degrees left and right around the primary Avatar User.

• Zoom - Scroll your mouse wheel:

  • Up = zoom out

  • Down = zoom in

• Move/Run - Use W, A, S, D or the arrow keys to move the avatar in 3D space forward, left, backward, and right.

• Walk - Hold Shift while holding down the W, A, S, D keys or the arrow keys to slow to walking speed.

Action Keys

• Grab — Press R

• Attack — Press Q

• Interact — Press E

  • If successful, your avatar will wave as an interaction animation.

💡 Spark Library Navigation

In the Spark Panel, click the up-arrow icon in the upper-left corner to move up through folder levels.
